Manifesto
“WE CAN USE OUR TALENTS AND UNITE TO MAKE THE NECESSARY CHANGES WE NEED TO SURVIVE IN AN OPPRESSIVE UNPRODUCTIVE SOCIETY.” - BROTHER SAYE
voices of color are being suppressed. We must make space and silence ourselves so their experiences may come through.
We vow to resist the long-standing tradition of white mainstream absorption of black musical forms. We will honor black voices silenced today and throughout history. We are speaking to a diverse trans-generational audience, combining visual image, music, and speech from the past and present to better understand how these voices connect with one another. The historical connections will commemorate black voices throughout history while forcing white America to actualize exceeding illusions of progressions. Industry constraints will be exposed. Under-representation and misrepresentation will be emphasized. Subversive voices will be heard. In order to live collectively, we as human beings, music lovers, individuals, must raise our consciousness and support avenues so ALL BLACK VOICES can be heard. |
We will spotlight queer artists of color on our campus. We pledge to support alternatives means of distribution and ownership. We will share accessibility to the contemporary influences who inspired this project and shaped these demands.
We are holding everyone responsible, especially youth culture - the most powerful consumer demographic - to actively seek out and support non-white narratives outside the mainstream. This platform will amplify works of art - to prompt a present-day understanding of Black experiences that undermines white supremacy. We celebrate theses artists who, through their music, bring us together, show us a true reflection of ourselves, and inspire us to reach for the harmony that lies beyond the toughest struggles. Our only hope is that this work is of some service to you. |
