Make Some Noise

Existing while black

innocent black citizens are targeted by INSTITUTIONALIZED RACISM and the militarized police force. here, we are Attempting to reclaim the humanity of the unarmed black civilians by celebrating their lives

TURN ON THE NEWS. WHAT DO YOU SEE? ANOTHER UNARMED BLACK CIVILIAN TARGETED AND GUNNED DOWN FOR THEIR BLACKNESS, REGARDLESS OF AGE, GENDER, OR INNOCENCE. THE MEDIA PORTRAYS THEM THROUGH MUGSHOTS AND DEHUMANIZING DESCRIPTIONS. HERE, WE PAY TRIBUTE AND RESPECT THEIR LIVES THROUGH CELEBRATION.

US government and police departments have inaccurately and inconsistently reported police violence against Black civilians. Furthermore, when the media does report on the fallen, they tend to use solemn pictures and focus on the death of the individual rather than the robust lives they were leading.  We have created a timeline of the unarmed Black children, women, and men murdered by the very police sworn in to protect them. This timeline aims to portray them as the friends, family members, and loved ones that they were before their untimely deaths. The timeline runs from 1999 to 2015. All of the children and women have had profiles built for them, whereas the men were selected at random. The reason behind this decision is the overwhelming number of victims are Black men who are disproportionately targeted by police. We chose them at random to remain objective throughout the project and entirely avoid valuing one life over another.

Should the viewer have any additional information regarding the lives of these individuals, please feel free to submit comments below. Inappropriate language and disrespectful comments will be disregarded.
